Feed and water container grown plants regularly, particularly during dry periods. Olives may be pruned with secateurs in late spring or early summer to maintain their shape. Young olive trees will appreciate some winter protection from hard frosts. Container grown plants should be moved to a sheltered position or cold greenhouse. With maturity, Olives become significantly hardier.
Olive trees require a well-drained soil and a sunny position. Avoid sites where water stands during rainy periods or where ground water seeps into a hole two feet deep. Do not, however, confuse the olive for a desert plant. It needs regular watering to thrive.
